Color Preview!

Hey everyone,

I have been working on some digital coloring this weekend. Just a little break from some pages.

Here is the first pass at the colors for the first issue of "The Golem of South Florida"

Hope you all enjoy!

Yay Color!

So there you have it, some color in my life. Who would've thought, even though ironically, if you know me, you know I am all about obnoxious colors.  Anyway, lots of work ahead of me, but I hope you all like it. Take it easy!

I Promise I Have Been Doing Stuff!!!

I promise I really have!

So as an update, I am almost finished with my last quarter of college, so naturally, it has been pretty busy as well as stressful. I have however been able to work on Golem, and I have actually finished the art for all 22 pages!! I don't have it all scanned yet, but here are pages 20 and 21 in pencil, and 20 inked!
The inked page

A fun look at the pencils that got it there!

and here are the pencils for page 21.

The inks are actually finished for pages 21 and 22, but I haven't been able to scan those yet, so hopefully I can get those scanned and posted this week for your enjoyment! Hope you liked the art I shall post again in the near future!

SO I Got Another Page for y'all

I mean, the title says it all.

This page has quite a bit of text in it, so, I didn't have to put too much art into it, or else the page would make your head hurt. So here is page 19.

Pretty sparce, BUT,
that is my favorite close up of the Golem,
and I like the shot of the War Golem as well.

Alright, next page will be big number 20! holy cow, it's almost finished!

Back to Golem!

Hey Bloggers,

Sorry it has been a while since I last posted anything. I have been busy traversing the United States.

BUT!

Now that I am back in Ohio and situated for a small stint of time, I can finally get to working again!

Here is the final inks for page 18 of Golem, I really like this page, might actually be one of my favorites. Although, I say that every time I finish a page, so I'm sure this love will be somewhat short lived, but who cares! Enjoy!
Chaos! I love chaos. It's fun to draw.
Not to live in, just draw.

Okey dokey, hope you like the page! I am nearing the end pretty fast, and am so excited!
Take it easy bloggers.

Page 17 AND something special!

Hey bloggers,

So I finished page 17 of Golem quite a while back, and just haven't gotten around to posting it yet. So I will post it, and I have another piece of goodie-ness to go along with it.

A cover design!

So for my Visual Storytelling 2 class we had to do some cover comps, and ink them, so I chose to make up a cover comp for Golem, this isn't necessarily the final version, but maybe this will be an alternate cover!

I really like the pacing of this page,
it's also nice when there is only three
 panels on a page

So there is the cover design, it was pretty fun,
who knows though, maybe it'll change a bit,
I would say probably.

Thanks for being patient bloggers, I will be sure to update more now that I am on break from school. In fact, I am pretty sure I will update more over break. Talk to you later bloggers!

Back to Pages!

The pages are back!

Well I have been working on school projects and various paintings, but I have finally been able to get to finish page 16. My school work has piled up over top of this page, so unfortunately this took so much more time than I was hoping it would. Anyway, here it is, in its fun black and white glory.

Yeah, unfortunately a two panel page took
way longer than it should have.

Alright time to keep up the drawing and continue churning out some artwork like it's nobody's business! I will keep it all updated!

Here comes Big Pharm

So I just finished pg 15 of Golem, and this is the introduction of one of my favorite characters, the manic, heavily roided "Big Pharm". He is super fun to draw and the next pages are going to have him fighting Golem, so keep on the lookout for those!

Here's the art!
Unfortunately Dry-brush wood texture doesn't
replicate perfectly when you threshold your art,
but, oh well, it'll be colored anyway!

As I said before, the next full pages are a good ol' fashion beatdown, so be on the lookout for more pages! Talk to you later bloggers!

Since You've Been So Patient...

You get a couple of new Golem pages.

You're welcome.

This is page 13 AND page 14, tried some new stuff with these pages, I was inking the majority of these with my brush, and adding the meticulous detailing with a crow quill. I had a good time experimenting with these brushes.

Will most likely continue in this brush endeavor. Anyway here are the pages.

draw ALL the boxes.

I love this page.
Especially that "Thwap" panel.

There you have it!

Two pages, I know, I was feeling generous tonight. Also two blog posts in two nights?! It's outrageous, it's ludicrous, it's wonderful! But anyway that's what I got for ya. Stay tuned for more art in the future!

Adios Bloggers!

50th Post!!!

Holy cow!

50 posts...dang...makes me realize that I have a pretty good amount of art on my hands.

At least I SUPPOSE that is what it means.

Anyway, in celebration, I finished my 12th page of the Golem of South Florida, which, means that I am pretty much finished with half the first issue! Well, sans color. Anyway, here it is!

I had a fun time with this page.
And not a ton of panels,
which was a bonus as far as time is concerned.
I like the guards, they are like
my little Rosencrantz and Gildenstern.

Well there you go, page 12, halfway done! Time to print some minis of the first half of the comic and start hyping it up! Let me know if you want a Golem half comic! Tell your friends!

Bah! Where does time go?!

Hello faithful blogdience,

really, where DOES time go? I have been swamped with so much, and none of it has had to do with art?! Oh well, I have been trying to get things done as quickly as I can, but that seems to be more difficult than it sounds...

Anyway, I have done some small sketches and stuff when I haven't been able to work on my comic stuff, and I will upload those in due time.

In the meantime, here is the Golem page I just finished!

So here is page 11 of Golem, this was definitely proved to be a challenge, because of the exterior strip mall establishing shot, and the high angle shot with cars in it at the bottom. I like to think I pulled it off convincingly enough, they were definitely a hill to climb over. Overall I am pleased with the outcome of this page.

More to come soon bloggers! Thanks for your continued support! God Bless y'all!

DOUBLE DIGITS!

Hey All,

So this is an exciting page, because it is number 10 for Golem of South Florida! Finally broken into the double digits! Well, at least I am excited.

So anyway, another fun page and hope you enjoy it!

This was a pretty fun page I gotta say.

Also as  a side note, the San Diego Comic Con is going on and I would encourage you to check out all the awesome things that will be announced in the comic world this weekend. Take it easy bloggers!

Get ready for this...TWO pages!

Hey y'all,

Yeah I said it.

Anyway, I have been away on vacation and although I wasn't at my drafting table, I was still able to get work done. And yeah, I am one of those guys who takes his work with him on vacation...I'm pretty sure its one of those things my family and my friends have just come to accept and they humor me.

Anyway, I got one done while on vacation and another shortly after getting home again. These are pages 8 and 9 for Golem of South Florida, and I added process pictures from my handy dandy iphone.

Enjoy!

So here is the final inks, this is a page FULL of dialogue...
It's always challenging to make conversations
between two seated figures in comics interesting.

The tight pencils, as you can see the dialogue written out.
As I said, a lot of dialogue.

And final Lightboxed Blue line,
 all cleaned up and fancified.

Okay so that was page 8, here is page 9. This page was such a challenge, because I had to finish the previous conversation from the first page, and have a flashback on the same page, all in all, it totaled 10 panels, BUT  I got to go back and draw the Golem from WWII and that is always a good time.

here it is, again, a lot of dialogue
at the beginning of the page,
 then action at the bottom.
Tight roughs again, lots'o'words at the top.

and clean ole' blue line.
For some of the smaller detailed stuff I had to
switch to a blue mechanical .5 pencil,
because the blue line pencil wasn't sharp enough
to get the details I needed,
so if you see the different colors, that is why.

Alright well there is page 8 and 9, hope you enjoyed looking at all the art stuff! I'd be happy to hear any feedback! Thanks!

Kablammo! Another page!

Oh hey blogey-people,

I had a super fun filled weekend hanging out with my brother and sister, but alas, it is back to work as usual. I have the inks for page 7 of Golem done for y'all to check out. I was more conscious about taking pictures of the process, as I said, I am going to try to be better at that.

This page is the first appearance of Dr. Nautical (oooooh, aaaaahhh)!
Yay for pirates!

anyway here is the final product!

destruction, old folks homes and pirates...Man what a page!

So now you have seen the final product, here are some pictures of the process it took to get there.

Alright, so here is the tight rough I did.
I went on ahead and sketched the "tight rough" full size,
so I could work out the details and get it ready to lightbox,
and not have to worry about getting it
into photoshop and making it larger.

Here we have the finished pencils.
I have been using blue line a lot more because it doesn't smear like graphite,
and being left-handed, smearing is a problem.
I snapped this as soon as I finished pencils,
as you can see, its literally still on the lightbox.

Here is a snapshot during my inking process.
So I decided to shake things up a bit and start inking at the bottom of the page,
then work my way up the page,
not really my normal pattern,
but I guess I really wanted to tackle all that "steampunk" style
pirate stuff since I knew it was going to take a while.

So there you have it, an update on a new page and a little more insight into how I do my artsy stuff. Hope you enjoyed looking at the art, let know if y'all have any comments or are interested in purchasing any of my art. I look forward to posting more, but for now, its back to work!

Relocated and Back With a Vengeance!

Okay, so maybe not exactly with a vengeance,  but how about "tenacity?"

And yes...I just used the word "tenacity."

Anyway, school is finally over, and after about 2 weeks of slow travel and visiting with family and friends, I have finally relocated back in Ohio and have been plugging away at my Golem of South Florida stuff.

I finished all the inks for page 6 earlier today, so now that my printer and scanner have been set up, I can share the new stuff with the webernets. I want to show a little more of my process, because I know I find that interesting and someone else might as well. So here is the final inks, then I will show the process stuff!

So this is page 6, just simply scanned and thresholded in Photoshop.
(and yes I forgot a line in the first panel, I noticed it after I scanned it.)

Alright, so that's what the inks look like, I'll be honest, this is one of my favorite pages I have done so far, I had a really fun time drawing that solders whole facial region getting destroyed. So here is what the tight rough for this looked like, remember it is a 'rough'.

This is what the rough looks like.
I actually drew it with a blue graphite mechanical pencil,
when I scanned it for Photoshop I scanned in greyscale,
so I could have an easier time seeing since
I was going to lightbox onto the final bristol.

Unfortunately I don't have the final pencils, I took a picture with my phone but it is not wanting to upload onto my computer, but as I said, I lightboxed the final image, and inked on top of the blue line pencil I used.

So that's all I have for now bloggers, hopefully I will have another page for you in the next few days, I am full time comic-ing right now, so I'm excited to make progress! Catch you on the flippidy-flip!

Another page! Bazinga!

Hey blogdience,

Yes, I made a "Big Bang Theory" reference...Mostly because it is amazing and all about nerd things!

Just to be clear, this blog has nothing to do with "Big Bang Theory" I just wanted to reference it.

I got another page inked, its the final inked version of the page I posted last time. It was sort of a slow going process, especially mixed in with the abundance of schoolwork I have on any given day. But it's all about slowly chipping away, right? At least that is what I am going to stick with, and I am going to let that ignorance be my bliss!

Onto the art.

Here ya go folks!

This was a pretty fun page to play around with, especially with the composition and shots. I was trying to push myself out of my normal comic layout, I like it, may not be perfect, but I am pleased with it...for the time being...

Take it easy blogdience, remember to smile and laugh, it's good for your health!

A Tight Spot

Greeting Blogdience,

So despite the title, I actually am not really in a tight spot, just another attempt at me trying to be clever with words. Anyway, this quarter has been crazy as far as work is concerned, but I am trying to still make some headway on Golem of South Florida. Here is the tight rough for page 5, golem gets to beating up some troops. I still have yet to blow it up and get it all ready fro inking and whatnot, but that will come along soon enough.

I'm pretty excited to get this one inked, should be some fun.

So as far as other work is concerned, I am in a speed sketching class this quarter and I am drawing like a maniac, so if I can find some time, I will scan some of the gestures that I like the most, just as something different. I'm excited about getting some Golem stuff done as Editor's day looms closer and closer. I hope you had an enjoyable blog viewing experience.

Color is a happy thing...

So guess what...

I finished coloring page 3 of The Golem of South Florida.

I'm excited to be able to hop off this computer and work by hand...photoshop is killing my computer's speed, which in turn means MY speed.

Anyway here it is!

Voila!

Alrighty time to get off this blasted computation device and get to some sketching!

Bye yall!

And BAM another page!

Hey there Bloggy McBloggerpantses out there,

SO I know I keep updating this blog with stuff for The Golem of South Florida, but to be fair, it is pretty much the only thing I want to work on right now. Besides school work. And even then, it's iffy.

So anyway, I finished the inks on page 4, and DANG it took way longer than I wanted it to, but, I got it done, and the next step is coloring! I am working on the colors for page 3 by the way. I just don't like staring at bright LED screens for too long, so I have to take breaks from working in the digital wonderland I fondly know as Photoshop. So here is the art, since that is the primary reason you are actually looking at this.

Bazinga.

Okay, well time to keep pressing on and making progress. Thank you all for your support, and continued support! Hopefully I can have some more pages for you in the future!

Peace my Bloggy McBloggerpantses!

More Golem-ey things!

Howdy bloggers!

Well spring break is coming to a close, and once again, school is about to start. However, I was able to get some work done of The Golem of South Florida while I was on break. Didn't get as much done as I would have liked, BUT still, there is progress. So here you go!

Here is page 2 colored up. I "finished"this page about a month ago,
but I was thinking about it all break, it didn't feel finished,
so I went back and made changes, ultimately for the better I think.

This is the inked page 3. I should say RE-inked page 3.
A couple posts ago, I put this up saying it was finished
but I didn't feel like it had enough black placement,
and felt like there was a lot of empty space,
so I went back in with ink and now I feel much better about this page.

Well thats all for now, I am actually in the process of coloring page 3, as well as finishing up the pencils for page 4. Hopefully I will be able to post some progress within the next couple, weeks...fingers crossed!

Golem Page Update

Dear Bloggers,

I have just finished the inks on the third page of "The Golem of South Florida", check and out and let me know what you think!

Page 3, this is just the rough thresholded version,
when I go to color it in Photoshop,
I will be sure to clean it up so it is nice and pretty.

So there it is, and like I said before, I will be getting the second page colors up as soon as I can get them all finished. Thanks for reading blogdience!
