Weapon XXL

Hey-O

Last post I did was of my fat superhero genre stuff. I like to refer to them as my 'Super-Size' comics. Anyway, I promised I'd do another, and I have in fact done one.

I have been sitting on this one for a few days, and am pretty excited to post it!

Looks like I'm not the only one sitting on something for a while...

Get it...

Cause Deadpool....

He's sitting.

On pancakes.

Whatever.

Hope you like it, and as always, I enjoy comments, and would be interested to hear any requests!

Thanks y'all!

Another page! Bazinga!

Hey blogdience,

Yes, I made a "Big Bang Theory" reference...Mostly because it is amazing and all about nerd things!

Just to be clear, this blog has nothing to do with "Big Bang Theory" I just wanted to reference it.

I got another page inked, its the final inked version of the page I posted last time. It was sort of a slow going process, especially mixed in with the abundance of schoolwork I have on any given day. But it's all about slowly chipping away, right? At least that is what I am going to stick with, and I am going to let that ignorance be my bliss!

Onto the art.

Here ya go folks!

This was a pretty fun page to play around with, especially with the composition and shots. I was trying to push myself out of my normal comic layout, I like it, may not be perfect, but I am pleased with it...for the time being...

Take it easy blogdience, remember to smile and laugh, it's good for your health!

Captain America vs. Ultraman!

Hey y'all,

So last post I mentioned that I went to Japan, well specifically I went to Tokyo, and it was AWESOME! But it was a class trip for two weeks, so though we did have a wonderful time, we had assignments to do when we got back. One in particular is that we had to make and 8 page mini comic (at least I chose to do a mini comic).

So I am a HUGE Captain America fan so I wanted to do something with him, and I got to become a pretty big fan or Ultraman while I was in Japan. Basically if you don't know who Ultraman is, he is kind of like a Japanese superhero who gets power from the sun. I figured it would be fun to have Captain America get into a tussle with Ultraman, over a complete misunderstanding.

The cover!

So there you all have it. I hope you enjoy it, I had a lot of fun working on these pages, and who knows, maybe one day I will put some color into it! That could be a fun little project one of these days. But anyway, hope you all have a wonderful day, and I will try to post more often and not take a break from it like I have been. Hope you enjoyed it, and tell your friends!

Adventure Time commission!

Hello there my blogdience!

So I must apologize, I have not posted since November, but in fairness, I haven't had much time lately to post anything! Winter break was crazy and busy and I was all over the place, literally, I went to Japan while I was on break! That is to be discussed for a later date.

To the art! This is a little picture I did for my friend Paige, she got me a Christmas present and in return I drew here a pretty picture! She really likes the show "Adventure Time" and though I am not a huge fan,  but I wanted to draw something to do with it for her.

Now clearly I let my own style shine through on this, because if anyone has seen the show I clearly have a different style than Pendelton Ward. Anyway, that's all I know, hope you all like it and want me to do a commission of your favorite old television show!

Thanks my bloggers!

Time to play catch-up!

Oh hey blogdience!

So, my bad that I haven't uploaded anything in a while, you know how that whole life-thing gets in the way of doing anything fun. Even when your life is full of comic books and movies.

ANYWHO...Here we go, first couple images are from a project I did way back in the quarter, where we had to do some character designs for the show ADVENTURE TIME. I guess I'm not like the normal hipster crowd here, but I actually don't watch the show, like, ever, so creating characters in a foreign style was...well it was interesting. The first one is a garbage collector we had to create, of the two this one is my favorite.
"He's a nice guy, just got a crappy job."

Anyway, I like him, but I sort of over rendered him, he should've stayed as flat colors, but oh well, I like him anyway. Now the next one was this description of a character we had to make, and it was something like "golden pig armed beast with intestines falling out"..Yeah, you're probably thinking what I was thinking...

What?

Anyway after wrapping my head around it, I came up with this.

Yeah, this is what I came up with.
It was the least grotesque way I could figure it.

So that was the ADVENTURE TIME projcet. Glad that's over with! So the following one that we did was the mascot, which I did Captain Caffeine and you can refer to the previous post to see that one, but after that we did a poster design for the Savannah Derby Devils, the roller-derby team in Savannah. We first had to come up with a character design, here's mine.

So I did a Girl Scout! I mean, what's more empowering to girls,
and ALSO has close ties to Savannah! I also named her "Cookie Cutter"

So that was the initial character design I came up with, so after the critique I made the actual "poster" for the assignment, it looks a little something like this:

"I'm no cookie cutter, I cut the cookie, and I WILL CUT YOU!"

I'm very happy with how this poster turned out actually, It's a different style of rendering, and also its an entire female cast on the page, which is a rarity...although I'm meaning to change that.

The last one I am going to share with you today is an image I actually finished a few hours ago. So if you recall a few posts back, I drew a picture of "The Incredibles" well, for my digital coloring class, I decided to color it. I have been waiting to do it, and I'm excited for the way that it turned out!

It's finally colored!! I am quite pleased with it actually!

So anyway, that's all I'm gonna post for now. I hope y'all like these pictures, I will try to be more regular in posting my pictures, I gotta make sure I keep it a priority! Talk to you later bloggers!

CAPTAIN CAFFEINE

hello my dear blogdience,

I am sorry that I have not been too diligent about updating, I have been a bit busy...And by bit I mean that I am running myself ragged and am just happy by the grace of God that I am still breathing! But anyway, heres a project update for ya!

We had to make a character redesign for mascots. Mostly mascots for brands and other things of that nature, well I made my own up, cause I like to be a hassle!

So I did Captain Caffeine!! The un-official mascot of Folgers coffee! I actually had super fun with this, and I want to share it with the world!

ITS THE BEST PART OF WAKING UP!!!

So thats it, I will post more of the character sketches when I'm less busy! See you later blogdience!

Golem of South Florida Updates

Greetings Blogdience!

I am back!!! Many things have happened during my blogging hiatus, all good things, there were no infectious outbreaks that caused the world to go in to a paranoid panic, although, that would have made it a very memorable three weeks...

Anyway, some of you know I am working on a comic project titled "the Golem of South Florida" I am not the writer, I am merely the artist. The benefit for you my blogdience, is that you get to see the progress and know nothing about the story! Muahahah! But you will, once it's done at an undetermined time! Cause then you can buy it and make it popular and I would like that very much! Anyway, here are some character sketches that I have completed, put out here for your criticism and or enjoyment! (I hope enjoyment)

this little dandy is the "Golem of Danzig" he fights in WW2.

See, I told you he fights in WW2!

This guy's name is Sid..That's all you get to know!

This jolly fellow is "Big Pharm"...
think "Bane" but a lot goofier.

This is Dr. Nautical. He's a pirate.

This is Sarah.
She fights with the Golem of Danzig in WW2.

this is my last one, his name is "Mystic Mike"

Anyway, I hope you liked these, even though most of you have absolutely no idea who these characters are, what their roles are and why you should care. Well, just enjoy them and the the comic comes out you can be like "oh hey I saw the original designs for these people on this one blog thing!" and it will be my blog thing and I will feel warm and cuddly on the inside.
Until we meet again blogdience!

Los Increibles

Blogdience,

Okay so I have had the weirdest desire to draw the Incredibles. But, in a proper superhero treatment. So as a break from drawing real serious things, I drew a fun drawing, one that I have wanted to do. Its not the cleanest and greatest, but it's fun and at least it's now off my mind and I can continue working on real stuff now. I hope you enjoy, sorry my scanner isn't big enough for the image, so there is some croppage.
Like I said, cropped, but you get the gist.
Its for fun.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed it. Keep on keepin' on blogdience..

BEARS BEARS BEARS!!!

BLOGDIENCE,

Hey there y'all. So some of you who know me know that I have this goofy comic strip I work on from time to time just as something for fun and amusement. Well, I haven't done them for a while, but I am proud to say I made two strips the other day, and am happy to re-introduce my strip to the world!

For those of you who don't know, the strip is called "Life's a Bear" and it takes place in a zoo. It's about an eccentric and slightly moronic polar bear who is put in an exhibit with a sarcastic and easily annoyed panda bear. Essentially it's their interactions as they are stuck with each other in this bizarre exhibit.

So here it is : "Life's a Bear"

Alright, well I hope you liked them, I'd be more than happy to hear your thoughts on them and comments on how funny or stupid you think they are, critique always helps!

Gracias por los pantalones!

Fantasy!!

Hello there web-world!

Oh hello blog-world! So much has happened since we last met, and by so much, I mean not really anything different from the norm. I am however closer to the end of the quarter, which is happy news, except for that whole stressful finals thing, I could go without that.

Anyway, an update on fun art. I did some illustrations for class, one was supposed to be a fantasy illustration, and another one an illustration of what was happening in the real world. We had to use colored pencil and watercolor. And we weren't allowed to use ink, for outlining or anything. I wasn't so much a huge fan of this to be honest. But anyway, I did it. And am done with it. Finally. Enjoy!

So its a kid playing in a box. Who didn't do that
I mean really?! This was the second one I worked on,
I don't like it as much as the first one.

This is the second one.
Obviously I spent a bit more time on this one.
I like it a lot more.

Anyway, I hope you like dem illustrations! Im certainly glad I'm done with them, cause now its time to move on with my life and go on to my final! hooray!

Until next time my fair blog,

Colin

Cowboys and Da Pirates...

Oh hey there minions of cyberspace,

So do you know what I have always wanted to be my entire life?

A Cowboy.

I mean, there is not a whole lot that's more awesome as a cowboy. Not to mention not really any other profession that just seethes raw manliness and pure unadulterated testosterone. I mean, unless you are a viking or possibly a Scottish Highlander, other than that, nothing is as awesome as the men who roam the wild west.

So this past project for class was one in which we had to draw a  "Struggle at Sea". Now you maybe asking yourself:
"But Colin, you just talked about cowboys and made a big deal about how ridiculously awesome they are, and now you are talking about a struggle at sea, those are so unrelated."

I would say to you:

"On the contrary blasphemer!" and then would proceed to slap you with a large marlin or other large spiky fish due to its obscurity.

These are in fact related. You see, as I tend to do, I mashed up random genres so that there was an explosion of awesome, much like when you open up a bottle of Dr. Pepper for the first time. 23 flavors y'all...23...

But essentially since I'm this far in the post and haven't revealed any art nor actually talked about what I have done, I shall sum it up and get to the art.
-I like cowboys.
-Had to do a "struggle at sea" image
-needed a boat and water.
-I like pirates too

All of these things came together and helped me create three images, as well as drop 'em in the good ol' Photoshop and put some screen tones on them. So here they are, a "Struggle at Sea".

Oh hey there pirate leg.

This is the 5x7 chapter header. Fun fact, that
Schofield revolver is pretty much my favorite
type of revolver. Thought you should know.

And boom goes the dynamite.

As I said before, I did put some screentones onto these drawings, but I'm not horribly tech savvy and they are being a bit finicky when I try to post them here, so hopefully sometime I may be able to post the final images, but for now, just enjoy these and know that you probably secretly want to be a cowboy as bad as I do. It's okay, you're allowed to admit it.

Until next time,

The spiked one.

STAR WARS IS MAH FAVORITE!

Hello fellow interneters,

Okay so, if you recall I had a Star Wars themed poster in the works for submission to SDCC. If not, then refer to previous post, and read that, then come back to this one....

All done with that one?

Okay, now we can continue...

Like I stated earlier I was making a Star Wars poster, and I posted the final inks to it, and said there was a colored version on the way. Well internet, today is the day I post the colors to that poster! I know, let the rejoicing continue as you scroll to Star Wars goodie-ness!

Just a simple farmer...
Now in TECHNICOLOR!

Well then, I hope that this picture fits y'alls fancy. I know I certainly had a lot of fun working on it, and I am very happy with the final product! Have a nice day and I will talk to you some other time that is not now internet!

Yours Truly,

a very sleepy Polar bear.

Wait..Star Wars Posters for College Credit?!

Alright.

So I love my major, basically I have been told to make a Star Wars influenced poster for Dark Horse's 25th anniversary. YES. STAR WARS. COLLEGE CREDIT.....all of these things I like.

I am going to color this image, but I figured I would post the image because I have had some people express interest in seeing it. So without further adieu, here it is.

Just a simple farmer.

So I will explain, the situation with this. I will be submitting the final colored version to possibly be printed in the San Diego Comic Con souvenir book. For those of you who don't know what the SDCC is, it's basically the Mecca of nerds. It's awesome. But anyway, if this gets selected then it would be in the souvenir book that is given to everyone who attends the Con and its given to all the vendors (i.e. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, IDW, Vertigo etc.) and I would also get a copy and a super awesome portfolio and resume piece.

So anyway there is the update on my life thus far I guess, at least as far as my art is concerned. Wish me luck internets, I would love for this to be selected. Anyway, have a good day interweb, I hope this picture gave you some happy thoughts.

With much enthusiasm and love,

Sir Polar

This Post is Magical.

Magical; charming: possessing or using or characteristic of or appropriate to supernatural powers; "charming incantations"; "magic signs that protect against adverse influence"; "a magical spell"

Hi there interwebs,

You know what is magical?

Unicorns.

You know what I drew in my sketchbook?

A Unicorn

I also like Narwhals. Refer to the previous post of a polar bear with a narwhal horn. So in this post I will share with the world my most recent drawing in my sketchbook.

No they are not on the moon as some people thought, that's just the magical sparkling emitted from unicorns in general. I hope you enjoyed todays post. What did we learn today?

Anyway, I hope this picture has inspired you to be magical today!

Magically sparkly (not in the twilight vampire kind of way...but the unicorn way),

Sketch-o-Rama!

Hello, It's me again, writing to my beloved internets. I have been doing a lot of sketching lately, and there are some fun drawings I would like to share with you all. These sketches were and are just practices with using different brushes. I am not as comfortable inking with  a brush as I would like to be, so I spent a nice amount of time during my weekend playing with these different brush pens, it was a good weekend, full of sketching, Dr Pepper and netflix. Anyway, to the thing you all want to see in the first place! ART!

Alright this here is my little creation for my comic book scripting class. His name is Captain Nebula, he is a bit of a dolt. He's a model spaceman from the 1950's cheesy science fiction era..he believes all aliens are communists..

Random woman I done sketched. She's fun, it was pretty fun drawing her, she has a gun. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case you didn't you know..have eyes..

This is my beloved Captain Hammer, from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. He is simply wonderful, and he makes me happy with his chauvinistic bravado.

Well there you go, those are the three sketches I had some fun with, feel free to comment, let me know if any of you have suggestions for later drawings! Always accepting new and fresh ideas, sometime my brain sponge runs dry!

Gracias Te Amo internets,

Sir Polar

The Crazy Dream I Done Promised Y'all!!!!

Okay so here's the deal, last post I promised that I would elaborate on the crazy dream I had a while back. I don't really remember dreams to often, so the fact that I was able to recall any of my dream when I woke up, let alone still remember my dream even now, like, 2 weeks later is slightly unprecedented! So anyway, instead of bothering you with how amazed I about my dream recall, I'll just talk about the dream now. I think the dream can be broken down in a simple math equation:

Super Smash Brother's + Tron + Inception = My ridiculous dream

Yes I know that is a hodge podge of craziness and that the equation itself is nearly impossible to make any coherent sense out of. BUT regardless to its terrible coherency, I shall explain. So it starts out with a box of old video games, nintendo 64 and playstation, basically the core game systems of my childhood. The box on top was mario 64, a magnificent game in itself, but now seemed darker and grungier...because let's face it, he's a plumber...it's not a happy position. Anyway he was much more hardcore and the enemies actually looked like they could indeed pose a threat in any given situation.

(This is what dream-state Mario looked like)

Anyway, as he was jumping on little mushroom's heads and splattering them into oblivion, he realized that one of those giant bullets was headed right for him, so naturally, being Mario he jumped into a green pipe. Although, when he jumped into the warp pipe, the action took me out of his world back to the box of games, where you see "the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". The warp tube then shot Mario out into Hyrule field in the Zelda universe. Not only did he see Link, but Link was super awesome, like a crazy hardcore elf fighter, and Mario had adjusted his costuming as well. He was no longer the familiar overall wearing italian stereotype, but now he looked more medieval. The two go through Hyrule field and fight random minions of Ganondorf, then Link ends up playing the ocarina, the song of time, and then they warp into an even stranger world than that of Zelda or Mario.

( This is crazy Dream-world Link)

Anyway, the two actually end up on a strange alien planet, only to be attacked by some weird mutant beast, then of course, they are rescued in the nick of time by the best female bounty hunter ever, Samus. Like before, Mario's clothes have changed into a more appropriate space looking outfit, as well as Link, now they are all corresponding in their styles.

Eventually they go into a few more levels of games, then the last game they are in gets put into a nintendo 64, and now all these characters must face the game itself, and the non playable characters, as well as the CPU.

I wont diverge all the details, cause they are my IP, but thats what I got for y'all so far, hope you enjoyed the craziness that was my dream. I shall bid you adieu, and you all have a wonderful day!

Esquire Dyer

Guys...My Arms Taste Like CANDYYY!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S INTERWEBBERS!!!

Welcome to 2011 everyone, I know there is a ton that I have to look back on and see how blessed I am to be, well quite frankly, alive, among other things! Anyway, I know my break from school has been a fun one, not exactly productive as far as art goes, but considering while i'm in school, I beat myself up getting my art done, so I guess it's much needed.

I saw a good amount of movies while I was on break, so now its time for : (drum roll people)...

COLIN'S SUPER DOOPER REVIEW OF AMERICAN CINAMA!!!
(And sometimes foreign films, but I don't watch those a lot so don't worry about that too much)

Most recent movie is: TRUE GRIT

If I was a monkey and had hands for feet, I would hold up four thumbs for this movie. It was wonderful. Even when we got to the movie late and had to sit in the second row like 2 inches from the screen, almost to the point to where I had to contort myself into some sort of gargoyle like position. Putting all that aside, it was an amazing movie. Jeff Bridges is one of the most dynamic actors I think I've ever seen, where one minute I can watch "The Big Lebowski" and see him as the Dude, then see a commercial for 'True Grit" and see him as Rooster Cogburn and both characters are completely convincing. I loved this movie, the story pulled me in to the point that I thought we were only in the theater for an hour, whereas it was really about 2, the movie just made you lose track of time. The whole cast was wonderful, and I recommend this movie to any western fan, action movie fan, fan of period pieces, fans of pistol toting sassy 14 year old girls, I think what I'm trying to say is: EVERYONE MUST GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

INCEPTION

This movie wins my "WHOA" award for 2010...first of all, Christopher Nolan can keep making films until he dies as far as I'm concerned...as long as his cinematographical  offsprings have at least a few chromosomes from "Inception." It's just that good. I know a lot of people have problems with movies like 'Inception" stating the plot doesn't make sense, or it's just too complicated. Personally I like movies which make you think, and the fact that I saw this over a month ago and I'm still thinking about it should speak for the brilliance of the film.

JONAH HEX

Stupid...nothing happened. There are western movies that you can see and sometimes you're like, "huh, well, that doesn't make sense, but creative freedoms are cool, at least the characters are believable" and I'm pretty sure I never felt that through the whole movie...I think the major question I had was "why?" and then I was like "Oh! look it's Megan Fox, she's still untalented. Wait, she's playing a prostitute. I
guess that's believable"

PSYCH

Okay so "Psych" isn't a movie it's a TV show, but it's still awesome. It follows two friends, one who pretends to be a psychic, and they create fake firm to help police in investigations. This show is hysterical, I laughed so hard watching this first season. I look forward to watching more of this awesome show!

Okay so this post is super long as is, so Im going to complete my list of movies at a later date. I hope you enjoyed this post, it's a lot of type, so I'll assume thats probably a resounding "no" but either way, deal with it! Next post there will be art work, I had a sweet dream about video game characters that I'm drawing some of, so stay tuned to see that stuff!

Salutations,
Grandmaster Colin

Well there is some artworks for y'all. The top is stuff that was done last year, the stuff toward the bottom of the post are the newer pieces of art. The greyscale storyboards were done for my Drawing for Stroyboarding class, they aren't normal storyboards by any means, they were developed over weeks as story highlights rather than actual storyboards. Just wanted to say that as a head's up, since I have talked to people about them and there has been some confusion over it.

Well I do hope you all enjoyed the artwork, feel free to comment or even request art, never done that before, that should be interesting!

Adios!
