Oh My Stars and Stripes!

Hey everyone.

Still playing a bit of catch up on older art, here is a Captain America piece I did over the 4th of July weekend.  I actually started this one and showed some of the process on Periscope. It really is a pretty awesome social media platform.

9'' x 12'' on bristol

I really love drawing Cap. Like a lot.

Thanks everyone! Feel free to reach out to me if you would like a drawing like this as well! I love doing commissions.

LET IT GO!!!

I'm back with a new look!

So there is this social network called 'Periscope.'

it's really cool. Anyway, its a live streaming app and I use it to do live drawings and things like that.
One night I quizzed those watching, and if they got the answer right, then they could request the drawing for the night.

The request was the cast of Frozen. Which I have never drawn, but it was seriously so much fun.
(Click for Higher Resolution)

I had a ton of fun drawing this, and the best part is, I got into contact with the individual who made the request, and I packed it up and shipped her the original!

If you'd like a print however, I can make that happen as well!

Big Ol Robot.

Welcome back.

After forever, am I right?

I have tons of things to show, but I will pace myself.

I did a really quick digital painting for my brother. He's a huge Pacific Rim fan, and was pretty sick last week, so I thought I'd make something fun for him.

Not only is the aspect of giant robots fighting monsters just amazing, but the name "Gypsy Danger" is just so stinking cool.

So I also have an Instagram now, check it out and follow if you'd like, my handle is 'NCDYERART' come check it out!

The Pipers Piping

Hey-O,

So this is a pretty late post. We made some art for our Christmas party at work, so kind of like a post-Christmas-post. Anyway, each designer was given one of the items for the twelve days of Christmas.

Mine was '11 Pipers Piping'

So naturally, I thought bagpipes. Because bagpipes.

So that's it. Rendering tartans with greyscale is pretty cool.

It's always fun to bust out the greyscale markers. And even more fun when it is a bunch of Scotsmen.

Also fun fact, the national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn. You're welcome for that little nugget.

Gift O' Freedom

Hey y'all

Been a little swamped lately, but I do have a plethora of art that I am sort of back-logged on.

The nice part of that is maybe that'll give me incentive to actually post more often!

So since it's the Christmas season, here is a fun little poster for all occasions.

You can give it as a last minute Christmas gift.

Or an early 4th of July gift.

Or a gift to the most patriotic person you know.

I feel so much freedom.

Pick one up for yourself!

Some Catch up....Again

So I have been working lots. And while again, I can't really post any of it publicly, but I did do a commission for one of my friends at work,  as well as comic con compatriot. He is gathering a collection of various art themes, and one he is currently working on is the 'Gotham' series. And since I'm not a huge fan of batman, we compromised and I drew a picture of the new Batgirl. Her new outfit is amazing!
Seriously, it's the coolest costume.

It was fun to break out the ol' greyscale markers again, hopefully I can pull away and do some more drawings like this for fun to recharge my batteries every now and then.

Take care y'all!

Weapon XXL

Hey-O

Last post I did was of my fat superhero genre stuff. I like to refer to them as my 'Super-Size' comics. Anyway, I promised I'd do another, and I have in fact done one.

I have been sitting on this one for a few days, and am pretty excited to post it!

Looks like I'm not the only one sitting on something for a while...

Get it...

Cause Deadpool....

He's sitting.

On pancakes.

Whatever.

Hope you like it, and as always, I enjoy comments, and would be interested to hear any requests!

Thanks y'all!

SUPER Size Me!

Hey-O!

So occasionally I get struck with the desire to draw really obese superheroes. I have done this on multiple occasions, and they are super fun to draw.

See what I did there. 'Super' fun.

Anyway, with the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I made a drawing of Cap and his second unofficial partner, Falcon!

So there ya go. I always say this, but I fully intend on making more of these.

SO if you have a superhero you'd like to see overweight, let me know, and I'll see what I can do!

Until next time!

"Don't You Ever Say I Just Walked Away"

I will always love you.

I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL.

Okay to preface this post, I have a joke with my wife about the Miley Cyrus song "Wrecking Ball."  And on top of that she got me a chat on a wrecking ball shirt for our anniversary.

Well, I thought it was hilarious, but I wanted to put my own spin on it, something that was more faithful to the source material.

THAT BEING SAID.

I laughed a lot while making this little poster/illustration. I tend to crack myself up when I draw, even if the actual drawing isn't funny to other people. I think I was just so mentally tired of working and pressing, I needed an outlet, and a fun drawing.

And somehow this was the drawing I got.

Enjoy.

Guys, my brain is sometimes a weird place.

Take care everyone!

(P.S. If anyone is gonna be at the Cincinnati Comic Con, I may in fact have prints of this for purchasing, because you never know who might want a hairless cat adorning the walls of a living room.)

A Study in Scarlet

Clever name huh?

Sorry to disappoint but this post has nothing to do with Sherlock. Sorry.

But I had some downtime at work today, and I haven't really done much character designing or pin ups lately...

(I have been working on comics and stuff for work, neither of which I can really post publicly, that's why I have been in hiatus so long. Sorry about being AWOL y'all)

I also thought it might be cool to show the process of this image, especially cause I drew this on my cintiq. Having to learn how to work heavily on the computer has been a blessing as well as a hardship.

A little background, I love G.I. JOE. Anyone who is friends with me knows that this news is no surprise, I have always loved it, and my love for comics has only led me to want to read G.I.Joe comics. The only problem, is I don't think the franchise has ever gotten the artistic talent for the books that it really deserves, and I have always wanted to work on a GI Joe comic.

So I have been doodling those characters for a long time, and one of my favorites is Scarlet. She is just a really cool character, and I love that when I draw her I can get away from the typical comic girl stereotype where the girls have obscenely large chests and hips and tiny waists that make no physiological sense whatsoever. I get to draw a woman who is a fighter, who is in shape, and could either beat you to a pulp, or sweep you off your feet. That's an awesome character to me.

So here is the picture!
This is the 'final product' of this couple hour drawing and quick coloring.

So here is the process for you to see how I made this!

so first I toned the canvas, and drew out my sketch.

Once the sketch was done, I lowered the opacity on the sketch and went into the final lines.

Here is the final lines, with the sketch layer turned off. 'Erased' if you will.

Here is where I added my local colors, with a pressure opacity brush. (Harder I press, darker color gets for all you non-photoshop people out there.)

I added a lithe bit of highlighting behind her, just to let there be a little more focused area in the drawing itself.

Thought it needed a bit more in the background, but something more graphic. I actually made a solid rectangle behind her, and didn't like it, so I started erasing and the haphazard streaks behind her looked so cool, I kept it. Added her signature color and her name and the drawing was finished!

Well thanks for reading through that crazy long post. Well long for me. And I promise, I will try to be more blogworty in the future, I do draw a lot, and all the time, so I will be sure to try to update a little more often.

Thanks for reading, have a wonderful day.

More Digital Practice

The title says it all. Been trying to practice more digitally. My traditional supplies are running scarce, so I figured now is as good a time than any to practice my digital art. I'm still not as comfortable digitally as I am traditionally, but that at least gives me more motivation to work at it.
Didn't feel like coloring too elaborately.

Well that's it. I am really trying to post a little more regularly, and so far so good (ish.)

Take care blog!

Gun Totin' Granny

Hey there,

So as I mentioned in the last post, at work we have these times for the designers known as "Draw Time Fun Time", and so I thought I'd post the second one I have done for this round.

This time we were tasked to draw an old lady and her male counterpart, and what will happen next is we will hand the characters off to the writing team here, and they will create a story about them. So its pretty open ended and fun.

So here's what I did.

Again, another fully digital image. I am getting a little more comfortable on the Cintiq, but I will say, it still never feels the same as using good ol' pen and paper. I definitely miss drawing these things traditionally, but unfortunately I do not have a scanner right now, so I am forced to learn and work with other methods. Hope you enjoyed!

Until next time!

Draw Time Fun Time

Howdy Y'all,

Yeah, my life has been insane the past few months. I have lots of art that I haven't posted at all, mostly due to not knowing if I could post it or not. Anyway, I have a new job now at a place called 'Epipheo,' which is a super cool place, and is best described as an animation house. I am one of the freelance designers but I'm not going to bore you with what it is I do.
BUT there is a thing we have been doing that has been lovingly dubbed 'Draw Time, Fun Time.' and basically we (the designers) get story prompts from the writers, and make an illustration based off one of the prompts.
We work on them about 20-30 minutes a day, starting with pencil and paper sketches, then taking them into the computer and finishing them however we want. Now, I'm not a digital artist, I am very much a traditionalist, so this is pretty foreign. But, I thought 'Why not, I need to practice computer skills anyway!'
So here is the illustration I did, my first fully digital illustration ever. So I still have plenty of room to improve, but I thought I'd share. The prompt will be in the illustration description.
"Do you think we can make it? I think so.
Besides, what other choice do we have?"

So that's it, hope it excites. I know my work digitally isn't nearly as good as my work traditionally. I'm working on that. Anyway, I hope to be able to post more often, key word there is hope. Until next time!

Just Some Pages

Hey bloggers,

Just as a little update, here are some pages I am working on for commission. It'll be a small 6 page excerpt from a larger story. I'm inking it with a bit more 'grit' and 'mess' than I usually ink with. It's pretty fun to break out of the really clean stuff I'm typically used to.

The page 1 of the story.

Page 2.

There will be more to come, as I said, it's a part of a larger story, 6 pages to be precise, so there will be plenty more to see. Thanks guys!

Just A Few Sketches

Hello y'all,

So again, I get all caught up in life and totally forget that I have a blog and why I created it. To post ART! So That's what I'm gonna do. I have some stuff that I am currently working on, but nothing is finalized yet, so I'm not sure if I can publicly post it, so I'll post some of the sketches I did for said project.

I'm sort of messing around with a different inking style.
We'll see how it goes.

There is obviously a theme between these drawings, but I'm just going to let you figure that one out!
Anyway, more to come when I can get to it! Happy trails!

Color Preview!

Hey everyone,

I have been working on some digital coloring this weekend. Just a little break from some pages.

Here is the first pass at the colors for the first issue of "The Golem of South Florida"

Hope you all enjoy!

Yay Color!

So there you have it, some color in my life. Who would've thought, even though ironically, if you know me, you know I am all about obnoxious colors.  Anyway, lots of work ahead of me, but I hope you all like it. Take it easy!

A Fun New Project!

Wow, It's been forever since I have posted last. Sorry about that.

Anyway, now that all the apologies are over, I have a few fun projects I am currently working on!

Specifically an anthology for one of my fellow SCADies, and it is for her senior project. I wrote a small little script for it and she decided that I could be featured among 19 other super great comic artists!

As a small aside about me, I love the military. I love drawing military things. So I really REALLY wanted to do a story that had to do with the military. So I did. I have just finished up the thumbnails and will move on to the final pages soon enough, but I thought as a courtesy I would post the thumbs for everyone to see!

You're welcome.

Anyway, here are the thumbs for my short story, titled "Behind the Wheel"

The cover and pages 1-3, as you can tell,
I really like doing tight thumbnails.

Pages 4-7.

I really like tight thumbnails, when I do thumbs and move to a larger tight rough I tend to lose a little bit of energy from my figures, so I just tighten my thumbs up to the point where they can almost be considered miniature finished penciled pages, then blow them up and finish them off with ink or a clean pencil finish.

Well that's all for now, stay tuned for more stuff to be posted soon! Take it easy everyone.

I Promise I Have Been Doing Stuff!!!

I promise I really have!

So as an update, I am almost finished with my last quarter of college, so naturally, it has been pretty busy as well as stressful. I have however been able to work on Golem, and I have actually finished the art for all 22 pages!! I don't have it all scanned yet, but here are pages 20 and 21 in pencil, and 20 inked!
The inked page

A fun look at the pencils that got it there!

and here are the pencils for page 21.

The inks are actually finished for pages 21 and 22, but I haven't been able to scan those yet, so hopefully I can get those scanned and posted this week for your enjoyment! Hope you liked the art I shall post again in the near future!

SO I Got Another Page for y'all

I mean, the title says it all.

This page has quite a bit of text in it, so, I didn't have to put too much art into it, or else the page would make your head hurt. So here is page 19.

Pretty sparce, BUT,
that is my favorite close up of the Golem,
and I like the shot of the War Golem as well.

Alright, next page will be big number 20! holy cow, it's almost finished!

Hello internet enthusiasts,

I did a couple airbrushed sketch cards. First time I have worked in airbrush this small, so this was kinda an experiment. Hope you enjoy!

and how about Goldie Locks here.

Well I'm off to keep doing artsy stuff, I will keep you updated bloggers!
