oh wow hey I have a blog don't I? AWESOME?!

Dear Interwebs,

I am sincerely sorry that I have not posted in so very long. Last quarter was very tough and took up most of my attention and time. For that I am sorry. I did just get back from spring break which was absolutely amazing, and I did me some sketching, sketches I  would be more than happy to share with you.

So I have been just sketching for fun recently, and one artist I love is Alphonse Mucha. For those who aren't familiar with him, he was a commercial illustrator in the early 1900's. Though it was like super duper long ago, his style reflects a lot of comic book styles. Instead of blabbing about his style and the ground he broke whilst being awesome, I'll just show you my Mucha inspired work!

That heavy outline is a distinct Mucha-ism...
This is what the picture says to me..
"..Why is that pale kid hiding in the shade staring at me,
whatever, just don't acknowledge him?"

This first one is of my lovely lovely girlfriend lounging and soaking up sun outside while we were at the beach. This was just one attempt at a Mucha influenced illustration, I certainly enjoyed creating it! Now on to numero dos!

"No Margaret, holding my cigar in one hand and my scotch in another doesn't make more sense!
If I did that how would I leisurely rest one hand in my pants pocket?!

I found this handsome devil in a super random magazine I found in the condo we were at. It was probably something like  "Scotch Drinkers Quarterly" or "The Tasteful Alcoholic", you know, something like that. But I had to draw him, his charm caught me when I was drawing-vulnerable.
Onto the third and last picture for this post!!!!

"...Sons of Scotland...."

Yes...This IS William Wallace. At Least the 1995 Mel Gibson version from one of my favorite movies ever, Braveheart. If you havn't seen it, you need to stop reading this, get off the computer and find a copy and watch it right now, seriously, it takes priority, it will change your life. Anyway, we watched it over break and I was completely inspired to draw my very own Gibson-esque  William Wallace. I actually tried to crank this one out quickly, and succeeded, got this one penciled, inked and rendered in all around 45 minutes.

All right my beloved blog, it is time for us to depart. I promise it will not be for as long as last time, that was a rough patch. Anyway, stay classy internet (I feel like that is an oxymoron) I shall see you later!

Sincerely your Cyberspace Warrior,

Sir Dyer

Seven Deadly Sins y'all!

Dear loving interwebs,

I am in no way condoning the application of the seven deadly sins. Now that the disclaimer is done, I am excited for the debut of my poster for the CSF study of the seven deadly sins. I was asked to do a poster for the sin "anger" or "wrath". I felt that would be right up my alley. It was. I drew a monster destroying a city, what else could possibly be more relevant?! First I will reveal the first concept drawing, just so you can see the complete change of idea when I started the final poster.

This was the first idea, and wrath checklist?
-Monster? -yup
-military presence to show physical threat? -yup
-massive amounts of damage?- eh..i mean, hes holding a boat...
- mass chaos and panic- nope, he looks like a toddler in a bathtub.

Obviously you can see why this picture needed to change. Not only the monster needed to change, but the composition, the feeling in it, and the lack of destruction was NOT okay with me. I mean, that doesn't show much wrath..

After much scribbling, and furious pencilling, a new idea emerged, better than the first, much like Terminator and Terminator 2. Except less cyborgs and more MONSTER!!

SO this is what the final product looked like, the stupid blog is being complicated and won't let me upload it for some dumb reason, so here is a link to the picture on my Talenthouse:

                                            http://www.talenthouse.com/colinscraziness
its the picture with the big monster in it...if you couldn't tell....

Sketch-o-Rama!

Hello, It's me again, writing to my beloved internets. I have been doing a lot of sketching lately, and there are some fun drawings I would like to share with you all. These sketches were and are just practices with using different brushes. I am not as comfortable inking with  a brush as I would like to be, so I spent a nice amount of time during my weekend playing with these different brush pens, it was a good weekend, full of sketching, Dr Pepper and netflix. Anyway, to the thing you all want to see in the first place! ART!

Alright this here is my little creation for my comic book scripting class. His name is Captain Nebula, he is a bit of a dolt. He's a model spaceman from the 1950's cheesy science fiction era..he believes all aliens are communists..

Random woman I done sketched. She's fun, it was pretty fun drawing her, she has a gun. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case you didn't you know..have eyes..

This is my beloved Captain Hammer, from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. He is simply wonderful, and he makes me happy with his chauvinistic bravado.

Well there you go, those are the three sketches I had some fun with, feel free to comment, let me know if any of you have suggestions for later drawings! Always accepting new and fresh ideas, sometime my brain sponge runs dry!

Gracias Te Amo internets,

Sir Polar

Sketchtastic

Hello there my dear internets,

My it has been quite some time since we last spoke. Well its most likely because i'm at school now, and that tends to take up a lot of my time. I would however like to share with you some sketches I did for my homework, granted, this is one page out of three, and there are more to come, but I want to share regardless.

Basically we are just doing sketches of people, mostly focusing on the head. Making sure we get the structure and whatnot done correctly. For my models, I creeped through my facebook and did a picture of my panda bear Austin, my sister and my brother, I was delightfully surprised at the likeness in all the sketches.

If you click it, it will get larger, so you can see with a little more detail.

I enjoyed these, and I hope the three pictured here will also like them. Anyway, that's literally all I wanted to say, thanks for listenin' internets.

Affectionately yours,

Sir Polar

The Crazy Dream I Done Promised Y'all!!!!

Okay so here's the deal, last post I promised that I would elaborate on the crazy dream I had a while back. I don't really remember dreams to often, so the fact that I was able to recall any of my dream when I woke up, let alone still remember my dream even now, like, 2 weeks later is slightly unprecedented! So anyway, instead of bothering you with how amazed I about my dream recall, I'll just talk about the dream now. I think the dream can be broken down in a simple math equation:

Super Smash Brother's + Tron + Inception = My ridiculous dream

Yes I know that is a hodge podge of craziness and that the equation itself is nearly impossible to make any coherent sense out of. BUT regardless to its terrible coherency, I shall explain. So it starts out with a box of old video games, nintendo 64 and playstation, basically the core game systems of my childhood. The box on top was mario 64, a magnificent game in itself, but now seemed darker and grungier...because let's face it, he's a plumber...it's not a happy position. Anyway he was much more hardcore and the enemies actually looked like they could indeed pose a threat in any given situation.

(This is what dream-state Mario looked like)

Anyway, as he was jumping on little mushroom's heads and splattering them into oblivion, he realized that one of those giant bullets was headed right for him, so naturally, being Mario he jumped into a green pipe. Although, when he jumped into the warp pipe, the action took me out of his world back to the box of games, where you see "the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". The warp tube then shot Mario out into Hyrule field in the Zelda universe. Not only did he see Link, but Link was super awesome, like a crazy hardcore elf fighter, and Mario had adjusted his costuming as well. He was no longer the familiar overall wearing italian stereotype, but now he looked more medieval. The two go through Hyrule field and fight random minions of Ganondorf, then Link ends up playing the ocarina, the song of time, and then they warp into an even stranger world than that of Zelda or Mario.

( This is crazy Dream-world Link)

Anyway, the two actually end up on a strange alien planet, only to be attacked by some weird mutant beast, then of course, they are rescued in the nick of time by the best female bounty hunter ever, Samus. Like before, Mario's clothes have changed into a more appropriate space looking outfit, as well as Link, now they are all corresponding in their styles.

Eventually they go into a few more levels of games, then the last game they are in gets put into a nintendo 64, and now all these characters must face the game itself, and the non playable characters, as well as the CPU.

I wont diverge all the details, cause they are my IP, but thats what I got for y'all so far, hope you enjoyed the craziness that was my dream. I shall bid you adieu, and you all have a wonderful day!

Esquire Dyer

Guys...My Arms Taste Like CANDYYY!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S INTERWEBBERS!!!

Welcome to 2011 everyone, I know there is a ton that I have to look back on and see how blessed I am to be, well quite frankly, alive, among other things! Anyway, I know my break from school has been a fun one, not exactly productive as far as art goes, but considering while i'm in school, I beat myself up getting my art done, so I guess it's much needed.

I saw a good amount of movies while I was on break, so now its time for : (drum roll people)...

COLIN'S SUPER DOOPER REVIEW OF AMERICAN CINAMA!!!
(And sometimes foreign films, but I don't watch those a lot so don't worry about that too much)

Most recent movie is: TRUE GRIT

If I was a monkey and had hands for feet, I would hold up four thumbs for this movie. It was wonderful. Even when we got to the movie late and had to sit in the second row like 2 inches from the screen, almost to the point to where I had to contort myself into some sort of gargoyle like position. Putting all that aside, it was an amazing movie. Jeff Bridges is one of the most dynamic actors I think I've ever seen, where one minute I can watch "The Big Lebowski" and see him as the Dude, then see a commercial for 'True Grit" and see him as Rooster Cogburn and both characters are completely convincing. I loved this movie, the story pulled me in to the point that I thought we were only in the theater for an hour, whereas it was really about 2, the movie just made you lose track of time. The whole cast was wonderful, and I recommend this movie to any western fan, action movie fan, fan of period pieces, fans of pistol toting sassy 14 year old girls, I think what I'm trying to say is: EVERYONE MUST GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

INCEPTION

This movie wins my "WHOA" award for 2010...first of all, Christopher Nolan can keep making films until he dies as far as I'm concerned...as long as his cinematographical  offsprings have at least a few chromosomes from "Inception." It's just that good. I know a lot of people have problems with movies like 'Inception" stating the plot doesn't make sense, or it's just too complicated. Personally I like movies which make you think, and the fact that I saw this over a month ago and I'm still thinking about it should speak for the brilliance of the film.

JONAH HEX

Stupid...nothing happened. There are western movies that you can see and sometimes you're like, "huh, well, that doesn't make sense, but creative freedoms are cool, at least the characters are believable" and I'm pretty sure I never felt that through the whole movie...I think the major question I had was "why?" and then I was like "Oh! look it's Megan Fox, she's still untalented. Wait, she's playing a prostitute. I
guess that's believable"

PSYCH

Okay so "Psych" isn't a movie it's a TV show, but it's still awesome. It follows two friends, one who pretends to be a psychic, and they create fake firm to help police in investigations. This show is hysterical, I laughed so hard watching this first season. I look forward to watching more of this awesome show!

Okay so this post is super long as is, so Im going to complete my list of movies at a later date. I hope you enjoyed this post, it's a lot of type, so I'll assume thats probably a resounding "no" but either way, deal with it! Next post there will be art work, I had a sweet dream about video game characters that I'm drawing some of, so stay tuned to see that stuff!

Salutations,
Grandmaster Colin

Time for an Art Dump!!!

dear interwebs,

I know it has been a while since I last posted, and for that I am truly sorry. In an act of apology I will go on ahead and just dump some artwork onto my blog. A lot of it is old, but that's okay, it need to be shown on the internets. Here you go!!

Well there is some artworks for y'all. The top is stuff that was done last year, the stuff toward the bottom of the post are the newer pieces of art. The greyscale storyboards were done for my Drawing for Stroyboarding class, they aren't normal storyboards by any means, they were developed over weeks as story highlights rather than actual storyboards. Just wanted to say that as a head's up, since I have talked to people about them and there has been some confusion over it.

Well I do hope you all enjoyed the artwork, feel free to comment or even request art, never done that before, that should be interesting!

Adios!

Some concept art, comin' at cha!

Greetings again friends of cyberspace,

I have been collaborating with one of our generation's greatest minds, Sir Joshua Evans (he hasn't really been knighted...yet...). And in doing so, his great literary prowess has spurred some concept art to spew henceforth from my brain. Here is the first of soon to be lots of concept images.
digitally colored version of the brother in soviet HAZMAT suit. (consequently, also sort of looks like a hardcore X-Wing pilot. I'm okay with that)

the other protagonist of the story, just in inks, haven't colored it yet, thats soon to come.

Anyway, those are the concepts I've got so far, there is plenty more to follow, locations, sets, antagonists..goodness...stories are complicated..well I look forward to getting some more art onto this post!

Adios cyberspace-ians!

First Post!

Dear internet enthusiasts,

Hello there, so I now have a blog, I'm not entirely tech savvy so this should be an interesting endeavor. Anyways, I am an artist and being an artist I want people to see my work and enjoy it, because what is the purpose of making art if you can't share it with other people?! I am a Sequential Art major at the Savannah College of Art and Design, in laymen's terms, I make comic books...well at least that's my goal, so that's essentially what I draw.
So without any further adieu, let's see if I can get some artwork up on this blogness..

This is one of my polar bear, panda bear comic strips, I call it; "Life is a Bear"

A children's book illustration I did for class

second children's book illustration, same assignment

There are a few images, I can upload my Mini-comic soon, just need to learn more about working this blog thing. Well this has been fun, I think I'll keep doing it, anyway, have a nice day interwebs!
